Action Required: Blackbaud-Hosted Customers Must Enable Multifactor Authentication by End of June 2023

We want to make sure that all CRM customers are aware that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) must be enabled in all Blackbaud-hosted Blackbaud CRM Production environments by June 30, 2023. All hosted customers must comply with Blackbaud’s MFA authentication standards by using either BBID (recommended) or a Custom Single Sign On.

What actions do I need to take comply?

  • If you are not a Blackbaud-hosted customer, no further action is required.
  • If you already have BBID deployed in Production and are on Service Pack 32 hotfix 1 or higher, or if you have custom Single Sign On in place in production, no further action is currently required.

  • If your organization is not on SP32 hotfix 1 or higher and has not enabled BBID or Single Sign On, you will need to take action to comply by June 30, 2023.

  • Blackbaud ID (BBID) is the preferred means of achieving this requirement and is a standard feature available to all hosted Blackbaud CRM customers.

  • Using BBID requires upgrading to Service Pack 32 Hotfix 1, issued in February 2023. You will need to upgrade to this service pack.

For more information about BBID (including FAQs and enablement instructions), refer to our how-to guide and BBID landing page.

Or, if your organization prefers Custom Single Sign On you will need to have this implemented by the deadline. Use of a Single Sign On solution does not require a Service Pack upgrade.

Benefits of Blackbaud ID (BBID)

Initially released in 2021, BBID provides many benefits including secure single sign-on, enhanced password protection, and the ability to strengthen security with multi-factor authentication. BBID also adds convenience for end users by reducing the number of credentials they need to use for Blackbaud solutions and allowing them to access multiple Blackbaud CRM environments within a single menu (rather than bookmarking multiple links separately).

Service Pack Updates

It is important for your organization to stay up to date on service pack releases as our teams proactively add new features and address bugs and security risks and concerns. Staying current with the latest service pack version is not only a good practice, this action also ensures your organization is receiving updates that may be required for security purposes in a timely manner. For more information on the Service Pack upgrade process and the benefits of keeping Blackbaud CRM up to date, review this blog post.
