SEPA Direct Debits in The Raiser's Edge (UK)

Published
Following on from Azadi's post on SEPA back in September, I can now confirm that SEPA Direct Debit functionality is available in patch 2 of The Raiser's Edge version 7.93.

The Single European Payments Area (SEPA) is a joint initiative from EU Governments, the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) to to create an integrated payments market for making, or receiving, payments in Euros.  SEPA functionality within The Raiser's Edge allows non-UK European clients to run this process from within The Raiser's Edge for the first time!

Important Notes:

  • Once SEPA has been enabled in The Raiser's Edge, it cannot be disabled.
  • SEPA does not affect the United Kingdom at this time (although it is likely to in a few years)
  • SEPA files are processed using SEPA compliant software.  Contact your bank for further information and assistance.

SEPA Direct Debits are set up in a similar way to standard Direct Debits.  The key elements are adding the Bank Relationship, here is what the SEPA fields look like for Bank Relationships:

SEPA_BR

As you can see, this is where you enter the IBAN and BIC Number for the donor's bank.  Once you have this, you can add the recurring gift:

SEPA_DD

The recurring gift is used to store the Mandate ID and Date (Bottom Right of the screenshot).  Once you have this information, auto-generate the recurring gift payments in Batch.  The auto-generate gives the following paramaters:

SEPA_GenerateOptions

When the payments have been generated, choose to create an EFT Transmission file.  Select the relevant SEPA format and create your xml file to send to your bank for processing.

For a full, detailed run through on how to use SEPA in The Raiser's Edge, see Knowledgebase Solution BB746048.

If you are hosted, then Patch 2 is already installed for you.  If you are not hosted, ensure you are running version 7.93 before installing the patch.
