Stuff You Need to Know About Financial Reports

Welcome to June’s edition of Stuff You Need to Know, RE Support’s monthly collection of resources to help you make the most of Raiser’s Edge. This month, we’re focusing on Financial Reports to help you keep a handle on your fiscal year finances. Whether you're using the Gift Detail and Summary Report for general gift reporting, the General Ledger Audit Report for reconciling with Financial Edge, or getting details on a constituent's giving history, financial reports in Raiser's Edge can help you keep a handle on your fundraising.

As a bonus quick tip, I’d like to focus on reporting on soft credits and matching gifts. Reporting on these can be useful, but it can throw off your totals if you don’t choose the same options in each part of your report.

In addition to setting soft credit and matching gift options on the General tab of your report (below in red), you’ll also need to choose the same options in any query you’re including in the report (below in blue).

Thanks for the tip, Kathleen! This is a great example of why Attributes are such a useful and versatile tool. They're user-defined, which means that you can use them in whatever way is most useful for your organization.

While it's possible to filter a report on Gift Constituency (Filters tab > Selected Constituency Codes > Use Constituent Code from... Gift), Gift Attributes give you more options to customize your reporting based on the needs of your data.

Thanks for the comment Kathy; what do nyour gift attirbutes look like for ths purpose "primary" "secondary" "tertiary" etc? also wondering when you implemented di you globally correct the past or just start from then onward. Thank you - this seems very useful potentially to my agency. (dreading the backfix though). Best,
One of the most useful tools are Gift Attributes! Because we have many spouses with their own records, who also give through donor advised funds and foundations, trying to run a typical canned report using soft credits without duplication is impossible. So, each gift gets an attribute for the constituency the gift should be counted towards. I then run gift detail reports for each constituency and plug my numbers into my report in excel. It takes some extra steps, but I know that my numbers are correct! I will be able to use the gift attribute when I set up my monthly reports in Crystal, so for now the extra step to plug the amounts into my excel sheet are worth it. You can also use the gift attributes to track special gifts, exclude specific gifts from reports, etc.
