Recurring Giving – Triple Win

Published
Recurring gifts are a win–win–win for all!

Donor Win
My family supports several nonprofits, but I’m terrible at remembering to write out a check each month or go online and donate. With recurring giving programs, I’m able to provide sustained giving to my favorite nonprofits—without any extra work or reminders. That’s a win for me!

Nonprofit Win
Recurring giving helps nonprofits win because it provides a steady stream of income. With the RE:EFT module, you can automatically generate recurring gift (and pledge) payments in Batch. In a gift batch, just click the Tools menu, and then click Automatically Generate Transactions/Payments. You can define the date range for the due dates of the transactions you want to include. You can include both pledge and recurring gifts that are due. You can also define the payment types to include.

Once you’ve added the transactions to your batch, you can modify the totals and remove any transactions that you don’t want to include.

Let’s consider an example. I received a check from The Bean Grinder for employee payroll deductions. I’ll use the option Automatically generate transactions in Batch to help me quickly enter the gifts. I can include a query that shows only the recurring gifts from The Bean Grinder employees. Once all the donations have been generated, I can make the needed changes. Joe Smith didn’t make his donation because he left the organization, and Susan Thomas only donated $25 instead of $50 because she asked her company to change her payroll deduction amount. I can modify my batch with these changes, process my batch, and voila! All my recurring payroll gifts are entered.

World Win
Recurring giving makes the processing of giving easier. That means nonprofits can spend more time on their missions. And isn’t the mission why each of us works for our organization?

This is my favorite way to support my favorite charities...like you said Melissa it doesn't require me to remember to send a check or go online and donate. I have the recurring payments set up in my money management software. I can manage my budget AND give a larger donation than if I wrote just a one-time gift.
We have a large number of donors give through automatic pledge payments (by Direct Debit or Credit Card) but "true" recurring donors are still a small portion. Always happy to support a donor who wants to switch to this type of giving.
It is a WIN-WIN-WIN proposition all the way around!
