Your Data, Your Way

Where I live, we have one of those fancy nitrogen ice cream places where they make you an ice cream concoction from scratch based on what you pick from their plethora of choices. Every time I go there, I'm always overwhelmed at first by what to select. But then I take a breath, carefully work through the menu steps, and always end up with an amazing treat.

Creating an export in Raiser's Edge is similar to ordering from the custom ice cream shop. First you select what you want as your output, such as bowl, waffle cone, spreadsheet, or Microsoft® Word document. Then you filter your options down by a base – ice cream or sorbet – or a query of records. Finally, you select the details such as ice cream flavor, toppings, and output fields. You might even decide to add an upgrade or an increase to a gift amount field. Before everything is finalized, you'll confirm your order or export to make sure it's just right. In the end you'll get your delicious ice cream or specific export and it's exactly what you want.

Perfect your order with Raiser's Edge: Advanced Exports, a new course from Blackbaud University.

Great analogy! I was redirected for newer training then received a 404 error.

Great analogy! I would like to visit that ice cream shop.
Exports have always been a bit intimidating to me, but the more I jump in, the easier they become.
I will look up the course. Sounds like what the doctor ordered. :)
Yes!  I was self taught at first and I still quickly throw together a query and then manipulate in excel, partly because I love excel ;)  I'm trying to be better at utilizing export and saving the time of playing around in excel!  Great article, thank you.
You had me at ice cream :)
