Why do I keep getting timed out of The Raiser’s Edge?

Published
Part of keeping your data secure in Raiser’s Edge means making sure unauthorized users can’t access the database.
One tool The Raiser’s Edge uses to increase security is an automatic log-out from the database after 15 minutes of inactivity. This feature is designed to prevent unauthorized users with access to the computer from accessing sensitive information in your Raiser’s Edge database, such as credit card information. However, depending on how your organization uses Raiser’s Edge, this time-out feature may not be necessary for every user.

To accommodate different data security needs, the inactivity time-out is optional for all users except supervisor users and those with access to Admin > Security. To turn off the inactivity timeout in Raiser’s Edge 7.91 and above, just go to Config > Business Rules > System Access options:

While it can’t be turned off for users with supervisor rights, you can still give users access to the majority of the database without needing to worry about being logged out due to inactivity. To do so, just create a user group with access to the majority of the database, but NOT Admin > Security (as in the screen shot below). Then, add users to only that group and they will no longer be automatically logged out after 15 minutes of inactivity.

By ensuring your users have only the rights they need, you’ll allow them to work toward your organization’s mission without the inconvenience of logging back into The Raiser’s Edge. And most importantly, you can maintain data security for those users with access to sensitive information in the database.

Users accessing The Raiser’s Edge through Blackbaud Hosting Services may also need to manually log off their hosted session if they’ve been logged out due to inactivity. Steps to do so can be found in How to manually log off a frozen or unresponsive session in the Hosted Environment.

My computer is a desktop.  I live alone and hate that if I leave my computer for very long I have to sign in again.  I understand that people with laptops must have this.  BUT, as an older American I don't carry my computer arounf

d outside my house.  Isn't there some way to accommodate we who STAY home?
