Tag! You're It!: Using Tags to Chase Fundraising Opportunities

Published

Let's face it, your constituent database is likely (hopefully!) teeming with individuals and organizations, from donors and supporters to vendors and staff. Chances are, your own fundraising portfolio of assigned relationships may also be a lot of people to keep up with. That's where tags come in. With this newly released feature, Raiser's Edge NXT automatically listens to your constituent database and tags active records each night based on specific situations (both good and bad) that could use your attention. Much like that childhood game of Tag, this feature provides your cue to chase down an opportunity to keep a relationship engaged, based on various activity (or lack thereof).

Giving. Raising funds is the name of the game, so it's no surprise that a constituent's giving history is a key indicator of their level of engagement. Raiser's Edge NXT listens to your constituent's giving and adds tags to highlight opportunities to reach out to engage new or fading donors alike.
  • The New donor tag indicates a constituent who gave their first gift in the past two weeks. Look at this tag as a reminder to welcome the donor to the fold, thank them for their generosity, and see how else they'd like to get involved.
  • The Recent gift tag means a donor gave a gift in the past two weeks. Timely acknowledgements mean a lot and help show your appreciation for their giving, so respond accordingly.
  • The Lapsing, Lapsed, and Lost tags indicate a donor who hasn't given a gift in a while. Similar to a LYBUNT or SYBUNT report, these tags show when giving's lapsing (no gift in over 12 months), lapsed (none in at least 15 months), or lost (no gift in two years). For best practices for working with these donors, see the Lapsed or Lapsing Donors Help.
  • The Overdue pledges tag appears when a donor has an outstanding pledge installment past its due date. To jog the donor's memory, a friendly reminder of the commitment might be in order.
Interactions. As a fundraiser, interacting with your assigned relationships is a great way to keep them engaged and help put a face to your organization. To help make sure no one goes unattended for too long, Raiser's Edge NXT follows the actions on your constituents' records and tags relationships that might be slipping through the cracks.
  • The Upcoming birthday tag indicates when someone has a birthday in the next two weeks. If you're looking for an opportunity for a quick interaction to show your appreciation for a constituent's support, birthdays are a great excuse to do so.
  • The No contact tag appears when a constituent assigned to a fundraiser hasn't had an interaction in at least 90 days. This tag's a good cue to just reach out with a quick note or phone call to keep the constituent engaged.
  • The No meeting tag appears when a constituent assigned to a fundraiser hasn't had a meeting in at least six months. As face-to-face interactions are a great way to connect at a personal level, we recommend you contact the constituent to see if they're interested in an informal meeting at a local coffee shop or diner.
  • The Recently assigned to fundraiser tag indicates someone assigned to a fundraiser in the past two weeks. If you're that fundraiser, this is a great cue to review the constituent's record, familiarize yourself with their giving and recent activity, and plan an interaction to introduce yourself.
For information about how to track and manage constituent interactions, see the Actions Help.

Wealth ratings. Target Analytics, a division of Blackbaud, Inc., automatically screens your active individual constituents to determine their overall wealth based on public assets. Additionally, Raiser's Edge NXT automatically screens the wealth information received about those constituents to highlight those who deserve some extra attention.
  • The High wealth rating tag indicates a constituent with at least a three-star rating (that's public assets of at least $1,000,000!).
  • The Higher giving potential tag indicates when Target Analytics returns a suggested next ask amount that exceeds the donor's largest gift.
  • The Recent wealth data tag indicates Target Analytics screened a constituent and returned wealth information in the past two weeks.
These tags are a great cue to review the constituent's wealth information and giving history to identify diamonds in the rough and determine how to best cultivate the relationship. For more information about the information received from Target Analytics, check out the Blackbaud Analytics Ratings Help.

Events. In addition to being viable fundraising opportunities, events are also a great chance to meet your supporters face-to-face and cultivate meaningful relationships. With Events ManagementRaiser's Edge NXT tags constituents based on their event activity so you can engage attendees both at the event and afterward, as follow up to see how else they'd like to get involved.
  • The Attended event tag means the constituent attended an event with your organization sometime in the past two weeks.
  • The Registered for event tag indicates when they registered to attend an upcoming event with your organization.

Hey Xochitl! The UPCOMING BIRTHDAY tag applies only to the constituent, not their relationships. Thanks!
I am trying to identify whether the UPCOMING BIRTHDAY tag includes spouses (or any other relationships) in the record?
