Addresses Q&A: From The Mailbag

Published

Earlier this week, Raiser's Edge NXT rolled out a trial run of address management to some organizations. And while not everyone yet has this feature, it's stirred up a number of great questions in the blog. To help keep you from hunting around for questions and answers, here's a compilation of the Qs A-ed so far!

a0b9dd83aa3329fac46b953959c8c12e-huge-edDoes editing an address automatically save the existing as an alternate? No, but you can simply add the new address and retain the existing one as additional contact info.

Can you track an address's valid dates, info source, or county/region? Valid dates, yes. For source or county/region, you can still manage them in the database view. (And with the iterative development of Raiser's Edge NXT, they may appear in the web view at a later date!)

What happens in the database view when I change an address in the web view? As with other edits in the web view (like to actions), changes made to addresses in the web view appear in the database view (and vice versa).

What happens if we merge addresses? Nothing different than before. Address merging still works as it always has.

Are there security restrictions on who can update addresses? This feature respects the address security settings in the database view. If you can’t edit addresses in the database view, you can't edit them in the web view.

Can I use AddressAccelerator or software from Canada Post to update addresses? Yep, changes made to addresses in the database view — either manually or automatically via AddressAccelerator, Canada Post, or another solution — appear in the web view.

If I select every address for a constituent as 'Do not mail' in the web view, does that automatically mark them as 'Has no valid addresses' in the database view? No, but it's a great thought, and good fodder for the Idea Bank!

For more information about the addresses feature, see the Addresses Help.
