What's New This Valentine's Day: Communication Preferences!

Published

Communication — not just how you talk with someone, but how not to communicate with them — is key to any strong relationship. Given that, it's appropriate that Raiser's Edge NXT updates this Valentine's Day with the ability to manage your constituents' communication preferences!

6d5f817d008b7da2042d31b7e8ef1763-huge-edCommunication preferences serve as a constituent's specific rules of contact, such as to not call after 8:00 PM or on weekends. To help you maintain positive relationships with constituents, you can now manage their rules of contact under Communication preferences on their records. (Previously, you could only view them.) You can use these rules to make informed decisions about when to reach out to a constituent and tailor communications to honor their requests. You can also set a date range of when a preference applies to a constituent.

Admins! In the database view, communication preferences appear as solicit codes. You can set up the communication preferences available to your organization from the Solicit Code category in Tables under Configuration.

For more information about this feature, see the Communication Preferences Help. To catch up on previous releases, check out the What's Recent Help. Enjoy!

Where do I see this in NXT? I don't see any tab or section for communication preferences on any constituent records.
Hey Andrew! It's more like the solicit code table in the database view speaks directly to this feature. The communication preferences available are based on what your organization configures as solicit codes via that code table, so you'll have complete control over which — and how many — options you have to choose from. Thanks!
Sounds like a useful feature! I'm new to NXT, having not yet used it (we're in the middle of conversion/migration to RE), will this table speak directly to the solicit code table in RE? I'm a little concerned that the Solicit Code table will fill up and become unwieldy, despite being able to manage this through Admin/Config tables.

Hey Karen! You are correct, the valid dates for communication preferences are unique to the web view and don't appear in the database view. In the future (I don't have firm dates at the moment), you'll be able to use these preferences and dates to filter constituent lists and with upcoming communication-creation functionality in the web view. Glad you're already looking at ways to extend the use of this feature! Thanks!
It's really great to be able to put start and end dates on these. Since these dates don't appear in RE when will there be a way to query on these dates or export them?
