Crunching The Numbers: Analysis By Gift Type

Revenue types. In Fundraising, Analyze and on records of campaigns, funds, and appeals, use the Revenue type filter to choose whether to analyze fundraising in the context of:

• Revenue received through cash-in-hand giving
• Revenue committed through pledges, matching gifts, and other commitments

To ensure consistent analysis and make sure this filter includes only giving that meets how your organization views these revenue types, admins can choose which gift types to count as received or committed revenue in Control Panel, Settings. For more information, see the Revenue Types Help.

Gift type analysis for campaigns, funds, and appeals. On the record of a campaign, fund, or appeal, you can analyze and compare giving toward or through the fundraising effort under Gifts by all types. With this insight, you can determine which types of gifts resonate with each fundraising effort's donors, and adjust appeals accordingly to increase giving. Remember, you can always select a metric in Analyze or on the record of a campaign, fund, or appeal for a list of the gifts included in its number-crunching. Which brings us to...

Gift type list filter. For more custom or granular giving analysis, use the Gift type filter when working with a list of constituents or gifts. With this filter, you can choose which gift types to consider when including donors or gifts in a list. You can also use this filter in tandem with additional list filters or Analyze metrics to fine-tune the analysis. For example:

• To analyze gifts-in-kind from a specific time period or toward specific fundraising efforts, use the Gift type filter to create a list of gifts-in-kind and apply additional filters like Gift date or Campaigns, Funds, or Appeals.
• To analyze gifts-in-kind from retained donors, select the Retained revenue metric under Retention in Fundraising, Analyze for a list of the retained giving, and apply the Gift type filter to the list.

To calculate grand totals or averages for gift amounts in the list, or to visualize the list as graphs, select Export to download the list's information as a comma-separated values (CSV) file, which you can then open in a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to play with the numbers.
