Add Constituents: Getting Individuals And Organizations In The Door

Published

In the Community discussion threads, Stephanie Crawley mentioned her "very most favoritest thing about RE NXT" is adding a constituent. On that note, let's look at how you add new individuals and organizations in the web view!

ae41754c998e5c14e58eddfcda53ad0a-huge-adAs Stephanie mentions, you can add constituents in the database view, in a robust, "multiple-tab-have-to-remember-all-the-different-places-I-need-to-remember-to-fill-in-way." On the flip side, when you add a constituent in the web view, it's streamlined to just the few elements required to save your relationship with them.

To add a constituent, from Home, select Add constituent, choose whether to add an individual or an organization, and then save their key details:
  • Name (at a minimum). For an individual, this can include their title, suffix, and middle name.
  • For an individual, demographics such as gender and date of birth
  • Contact information, including their mailing address, phone number, email address, and online presence
  • Constituent codes, to indicate their affiliations with your organization
  • For an individual, the primary addressee and salutation to use in their communications
From the constituent's record, you can then manage additional details as you see fit, including:
  • The fundraisers assigned to help cultivate your relationship with them
  • Any notes, actions, and — with Prospect Research Management opportunities to track interactions and efforts to cultivate the relationship
  • A profile picture, to help personalize the relationship and ease identification for in-person interactions
  • A summary note, for a quick, at-a-glance synopsis of important information about them and your relationship
  • Their communication preferences or rules of contact, such as to not call after 8:00 p.m.
  • Any aliases and other name formats for communications
  • Attachments — such as photographs or online content — to help track and archive your relationship
  • Their relationships with others, such as friends, family, and employers
  • With Prospect Research Management, their prospect status and classification, as well as any financial information
  • Custom fields for other, specialized information your organization tracks about constituents

Ditto what Mergen Peries said!  It comes across as such a low priority for Blackbaud.  It's never mentioned on any of the roadmaps.
This is great Steve.  I realise there are issues with implementing the RE > Config >Fields > required settings across NXT, because you don't have all fields exposed yet, but surely it would be good to work on an interim measure.  You are creating a massive headache for DBAs!  We have to create queries to monitor data entry to ensure data integrity, when there is a perfectly good system put in place by Blackbaud to do just that!
