Add a Local Museum to Your Holiday Shopping

Published
I planned on publishing this post next week, but because Black Friday apparently starts on Thanksgiving itself this year, I thought I'd publish early. I'm not a fan of the mall. I pretty much avoid it at all costs, especially during the holidays. Charleston has so many talented makers and cute boutique stores; I can find gifts for almost everyone nearby. But until this year, I'd been overlooking one local resource for gifts - our museums. From fantastic gift shops to event tickets to memberships, your local museum has plenty of gift options. Here are a few examples of what Altru customers are offering:

The Nevada Discovery Museum makes it easy for Santa with their gift registry. Your kids can pick out exactly what they want at the Museum shop, leaving a nice list for Santa! Oh, and members get a 15% discount.

Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust is holding a Holiday Open House and offering 20% off purchases over $50.

The American Swedish Institute has entire section of their store dedicated to their Jul shop.

Polk Museum of Art is hosting an Elves Shelves Gift Shop - a Christmas shop for children only, and priced accordingly.

Museum of Jewish Heritage has a section of The Pickman Museum Shop stocked for Hanukkah. And members get a 15% off all purchases, and 25% off during the Members-only sale.

Memberships and tickets to events make fantastic gifts as well. So shoppers, think about picking up a pass to your local museum for friends and family! And museums, check back next week for a post on how to up your sales this season!
