April 8th: End of Windows XP Part 3

Have you seen this yet?

xp

As the end of XP nears, Microsoft will begin displaying this message on XP machines IF they have automatic updates turned on. So, even if you don’t see this, you still have to update your XP machine. This message is just one more reminder that XP is saying its final goodbyes. I’d like to imagine that XP is just being sent to a farm where it can run around and play with other older operating systems. It served us well: “That'll do, XP. That'll do.”

Now, it’s time for a new dog with new tricks.

The link in the message takes you to this landing page. On this page you will find information on update options including Windows 8.1. I’m comfortable recommending 8.1. And, if your IT person happens to know a guy who knows a guy who can still get you Windows 7, that will work as well. However, I say just update to 8.1, as it is bound to be supported a few more years longer than Windows 7.
