Hardware Review: Lemur-S by Boca

Published
I look at old ticket printers like classic cars: heavy metal, loud and run forever; even after taking a beating.

The Boca Lemur-S is my “Eleanor” of ticket printers. This printer has seen some abuse in its time, including when I dropped it on concrete while traveling to Cincinnati. The fall was from 3ft or so and put a good size dent in the front bezel. Did the printer stop working? Heck no. These things are built like tanks.

I was surprised to see a new revision come out of Florida when the old design was still very relevant. Luckily though, this thing has shed some pounds in favor of lighter, plastic construction. Along with the new shape, the design also provides a better placement of the power and communication ports. No more cords sticking out the back.

Lemur

How does it print? Identical to the older Lemur-S. Width, length, and height remain the same. This is great if you have prebuilt enclosures for your ticket printers or took the dimensions into consideration when designing your visitor service counters.

For all intents and purposes, this is the same printer in a lighter package, with better cable placement. Those changes alone may not justify an upgrade to the newer version, but it is something to look forward to when it is time to add or replace an existing ticket printer.
