Welcome to 2021! It seems to be starting off just as memorable as good old 2020. The world hasn’t gone back to normal quite yet, and it seems like we’ll still be dealing with the effects of the pandemic into the near future. What does that mean for us?

Your patrons and supporters will continue to utilize your online web forms. Whether it’s buying tickets for the future or giving a donation to help out during a rough time, their main method of interaction will be online sales.

2021 has given us enough stress already—let’s not add to our stress levels by letting our duplicate records pile up. We can’t control everything, but we can control how often we check and merge duplicate records in the database.

Your members are loyal supporters of your organization—you want to make online sales as simple as possible for them! If they’ve already typed out their address, why make them enter it again? You also want to make sure they get all of their member discounts. How can you make this as seamless as possible? Online registration.

During our Blackbaud Altru: Building Effective Web Forms class, we cover:

Turning on/off online registration
Providing an email link to members for registration
Configuring web forms and customizing the page designer
Customizing email acknowledgement letters

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that things happen, and we just have to make the best of them. We will get duplicates in registration content—AND THAT’S OK! What’s important is coming up with a plan to manage them. In our Blackbaud Altru: Database Cleanup - Duplicates class, we explore ways to find, merge, and manage our duplicate records. You’ll be able to:

Set up a percentage threshold for how much incoming information should match an existing record in Altru
- Understand the duplicate pop-up window (you can catch duplicates right before they’re saved!)
Manually merge two duplicate records
Set up a job schedule to automatically search your database to find duplicates

With all of the craziness around us, it’s almost comforting to see how analytical and controlled our Altru data can be. By configuring the thresholds and setting up job schedules, we can begin to manage our duplicates effectively—a silver lining we can all count on!
