More Than a Thank You

Published
In the last couple weeks, the Altru blog has been offering advice on how to generate ticket sales and additional revenue for your events. As a follow up, we're offering some advice on what you should do AFTER the event. Most organizations are great about thanking their constituents for attending an event, but there is an additional opportunity in here. You have the chance to connect with a constituent; to turn a visitor into a member or supporter. Here's what we suggest you include in that all-important "Thank you for coming" email:

Thank You

This one goes without saying. Obviously, you want to thank someone for attending your event; for spending their time and money on your organization.

Results of the Event

If this was a charity fundraiser, it'd be great to say how much you raised and/or what the impact will be. "Last night, we collected enough canned goods to supply 100 families with a week's worth of food." Give them the warm and fuzzies; you didn't just have a great time, you helped someone.

Other Events You Might Be Interested In

You now have an idea of the type of constituent they are. Let them know about other events they might like. If they attended your Halloween showing of Friday the 13th, let the know you have an exhibit on special effects. If they attended story time, let them know about Summer camp.

Discounts on Said Events

While you're letting them know what else they might like, as a thank you, offer them a discount. Even just 10% off might be enough initiative to plan a 2nd trip, especially if they had a great time at the 1st.

Apply Yesterday's Attendance to Your Membership

You can also offer them the option of applying the amount the spent yesterday towards their membership. I would say this is something you should offer AT the event, but a limited time offer to basically recoup their expense is tempting.

Perks of Membership

And while you're talking about membership, suggest why they should join. What are the perks? You can list all your perks or tease them with the couple you think they'd be interested in and a link to the description on your website.
