Support Ending for BBNC LinkedIn Group Part 299

Support Ending for BBNC LinkedIn Group Part

Published

Due to significant changes that LinkedIn is making to their Developer Program to limit the open APIs, starting on May 12, 2015 Blackbaud will no longer be able to support the “LinkedIn Group Join” part. The changes are documented by LinkedIn here.

For context, the “LinkedIn Group Join” part used the LinkedIn Group API to allow organizations using BBNC to promote their “official” LinkedIn group to users. This part also allowed for easy connection to the LinkedIn group and enabled an organization to capture a user’s public LinkedIn profile URL and share that back to The Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud CRM. This change will not affect BBNC customers’ alumni sites, giving forms, or constituent databases.

For BBNC customers using the “LinkedIn Group Join” part on a website, the announced change from LinkedIn, on May 12th will impact the end users experience so that when users, such as constituents or alumni, select the “Join Group” button on the page, an error will occur in the LinkedIn popup window.

We recommend customers who are using this part, remove all LinkedIn Group parts from BBNC web pages prior to May 12th to minimize the risk of users seeing this error.

We suggest that affected customers link to their LinkedIn Groups manually to lead their constituents to the correct LinkedIn Group; however, no link between the constituent record and LinkedIn user will be created. In addition to requesting affected customers remove the “LinkedIn Group Join” part, Blackbaud will remove the part in a future release so that it is no longer visible.

In addition, Blackbaud will continue to work with LinkedIn on future development opportunities to help our customers leverage LinkedIn communities.

We apologize for the inconvenience this change creates for your organization and constituents and appreciate your understanding. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Blackbaud Support.
