Graduating Students: All The Pomp And Circumstance

Published
At the end of every academic year, there comes the time to don graduation caps and progress your seniors into the next steps of their academic career. The Promotion Schedule in Configuration and the End of the Year Processing wizard in Administration> Status wizards dictates what happens with the seniors in the Education Edge.  There are 2 ways to handle graduates in the promotion schedule.

Option 1: You can mark the box “Graduate” next to the 12th grade. Marking this box prevents a Student Progression Entry from being created when the Mark for Reenrollment wizard is ran.

Option 2: If your school has a grade level that is associated with graduates, you can update the promotion schedule so that all 12th graders go to that grade level when running the Mark for Reenrollment Wizard.

Once your promotion schedule is set up for the option you chose, the next step is to run the End of the Year Processing wizard.  This wizard is responsible for updating the information on the Bio1 tab with the information from the Student Progression Entry and updating graduation information for seniors.

Note: Best practices would be to update the Date enrolled to, Status, and Graduation date with the End of Year processing wizard.

Once you have run the End of Year Processing wizard, a graduated student’s record can look like this:

Now that all the hard work is done, it is time to congratulate the seniors on their hard work and enjoy the summer.
