Upcoming Phone Sharing Changes for Education Edge and Raiser's Edge

Published
What’s happening?
As we mentioned in our first post of the Raiser’s Edge 7.94 blog series, constituent contact information such as phone numbers and email addresses are no longer going to “live” off of an address in Raiser’s Edge as this is a dated practice.  We believe that contact information should belong to a person rather than an address.

What does this mean to my school?
The changes to Raiser’s Edge also include removing phone sharing as this is a concept that is also dated.   Therefore, for customers that use the integration between Education Edge and Raiser’s Edge phone sharing will also be removed from The Education Edge.  However, when addresses are copied between records in Education Edge, copies of the phone numbers will be created for the shared address.

When will this happen?
Raiser’s Edge  7.94 release is scheduled for January 25th for Blackbaud Hosted customers.  In order to continue to support the integration between Education Edge and Raiser’s Edge, a patch for Education Edge will be released on January 22nd to Blackbaud Hosted customers. If you do not host these applications via Blackbaud Hosting, the Raiser’s Edge 7.94 release and Education Edge patch will be available to you on January 26th on the Downloads page of the Blackbaud website.

What are the next steps?
We will follow up with you again in early January with more documentation around these changes to both Raiser’s Edge and Education Edge and what your school should do to prepare for the updates.
