Education Edge 7.87 Patch 4 is on the way!

Published
A lot has been going on these days! In February we released Education Edge (EE) 7.87 Patch 3 to update compatibility with Raiser’s Edge (RE) 7.94 for our schools that utilize integration. We quickly learned from our clients that are hosted or downloaded RE 7.94 the changes to handling contact information were not functioning as expected and pulled the RE 7.94 and EE 7.87 Patch 3 from our website. Since February we’ve worked to learn more about what you experienced and to update EE. Our goal is to provide a better experience with RE 7.94 and above for integrated clients and to correct a number of client reported issues in EE 7.87 Patch 4.

Integration Issues Addressed for Patch 4

Contacts are deleted from Education Edge.

With the update to 7.94, all contact information was moved from all addresses for a constituent to a single Contact Grid. This includes any contact information on relationship records that were an exact match to the existing contact information for the constituent (ie. Mom and Dad and they had the same Home phone number). Based on linked settings, RE sometimes de-duplicated this contact information, which prompted EE to delete the information. With EE 7.87 Patch 4, we will check the contact information itself to attempt to relink matching contact information, rather than deleting based on the integration ID of de-duplicated contact information.

My updates aren’t coming through or are missing.

In some cases, our schools had addresses linked incorrectly; the primary address in EE was not linked to the preferred address in RE. This becomes more problematic with the changes in 7.94, since contact information is no longer shared across records in either EE or RE. So, we created a utility to help you identify records in this state to unlink/re-link to the appropriate addresses.

Integration Issues being addressed in a future release post 7.87 Patch 4

My Integration Activity report is out of control.

RE allows duplicate contact types in the new contact grid, so it is possible for a constituent to have multiple Home numbers. We heard from our EE schools that duplicate contact types should not be allowed in EE to ensure only the most accurate up to date contact information is on the record. With the upgrade, integrated schools will see the error for duplicate contact types on their Integration Activity Report. Currently, in order to resolve this issue, we would need to delete the inaccurate or historical home number in RE.

Wait! I want to mark historical contact information as inactive in RE.

We are going to update integration in our next release to ignore inactive contact information in RE. This means contact numbers will be deleted from EE if they are marked inactive in RE.

What happened to my Shared icons on phones?

For integrated clients, EE 7.87 Patch 3 removed the concept of sharing contact information. We are still able to share addresses across records but we are no longer sharing phone information. This means you’ll need to update all records in a family if a shared number is updated.

Contact information is being overwritten when I create new relationships from a record.

We’ve identified a bug with the copy address tool; it brings phone information forward as though it is still shared. We’re working to address this as quickly as possible; however we do not have a fix in place with EE 7.87 Patch 4. We will continue to keep our integrated clients posted as we have a fix available.

We know this was a huge change and are dedicated to ensuring that impacted schools are returned to a good state while we continue working on the issues for any integrated schools that have not yet upgraded. Thank you for your patience as we’ve worked to understand and correct these issues.
