What’s New: K12 Product Updates For December 11

Published
And here we are, at the end of another year. I hope it was a productive and enjoyable one for you. I know it has been for us as well as we’ve shown inside of our Year in Review product posts. We’re not done quite yet though as we still have our final release of 2019 to share.

We’re hoping you’re on the nice list this month because we’ve got a good mix of quality of life improvements as well as new features for you to enjoy. Enrollment management and School website lead the way this month, but we also have a few presents for you Academics and API users as well.

So, before your holiday vacation arrives, let’s have a look at some of the highlights for our release on December 11.

Enrollment management: Assign contract types list overhaul! Podium, be gone! In this update, we’ve completely overhauled Assign contract types to use a more modern look and feel like other lists inside of Blackbaud’s Education management products. This means you have access to customizable options like filters and columns, a search bar to find results easier, and the ability to change the order or columns.

Better yet, we’ve also added the ability to apply bulk actions. Simply select one or more results in the list to assign a contract type to all of them. One thing to note here is that there’s a limit to how many records can have bulk actions applied to them. With this release, the maximum number is set to 50.

Academics: Transcript improvements! If needed, you can now create a header the repeats across every page of a transcript. You can find this functionality on the Design form when editing a transcript template. Look for the Repeat first row on all pages and enable it.

School website: Team Navigation for your Team Detail Pages. This month, we’re continuing our athletics initiative by adding tabbed navigation for team detail pages. What is that, you say? Well, there’s a new widget called Team Navigation available from Team Detail under Detail Pages when building a website.

Like other widgets, you can drag and drop this where you need it, but you can enable tabs to display the roster and schedules on the page. One thing to note is that New Team Detail pages will default to just have the team home option selected so you’ll need to manually turn on the others through the widget settings.

We hope you enjoy at least one of the gifts we’ve wrapped for you under the tree in this December update. As always, check out the release letter for the full list of changes, updates, and new features.

Next week we’re continuing our product journey with School website and then wrapping up the blogging season in 2019 with Core. I hope you join me but if not, I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday season. After a short break, we’ll be back cranking out all new content for you to enjoy in January 2020.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by this week and make sure to subscribe to the K-12 Community if you haven’t yet done so. We’re entering the home stretch but there’s still so much to talk about! See you next week!

Hey Lorrin Saliba‍ thanks for the kind words!  So just to make sure I'm understanding, for point #1/2 are you under Enrollment management, Enrollment, Contracts, and then Assign contract types? From there, if you select Filter there is a School year option under General. Does that help with your question for finding the current class? You could use the Candidate/student options to further refine the results from there. For #3, that sounds a bit odd. I might suggest reaching out to support to have them take a closer look. #4 I definitely understand. Can't promise anything, but I'll relay your message. I have a feeling this is something the team knows about already. Thanks again for the feedback!
I know today was release day for this new feature but is it to early to make requests or comments?  I was going to actually apply contracts yesterday until I saw the announcement about this update so I patiently waited until today to see how the new features would make my life easier.  Our contracts publish 1/3/2020.
1) the release needs WAAAAYYYY more documentation on how to correctly filter to get to your current student body. A video or something?  Anything. Still change is good.
2.) We have 1600 reenrollment contracts to issue and I have 8 different contract types.  I typically filter by grade and do each grade by assigning one of the different contracts to the different students.  The new layout does not have the ability to filter by current or entering grade. I need to assign by grade, or the option to assign by grade if possible.
3) Alternatively, the ability to click on a column header to sort by (entering/current) grade is not sorting as expected.  I get 5th grade as the first grade when I click on that header. I get 6th grade if I reverse it.
4) The fact that it does not save my filters if I have to go to another list to work on an issue and come back is frustrating.  It assumes that I am going to sit down and start and finish this all in one sitting....... Not ever going to happen in one sitting. Ever.

Love y'all! Love Blackbaud! Love new features!  #CanIbeatester?
Julie Baker‍ The update goes live tomorrow, so you won't be seeing anything until then. If you don't see it after tomorrow, definitely contact support because something fishy is going on.

Tina Pappas‍ Very cool feature, right? Solid idea about the footer. Definitely worth an add to the Ideas section if there isn't one there yet! I honestly don't know if footers are on the table in the future but if enough people are looking for it, I'm sure the team will address it down the road.
Love that you can create a transcript header. Any chance of being able to edit the footer next?
Was the not returning button  option in the enrollment contracts not released?
