I’m OK With Change. Are You?

Published
There are so many clichés around change. There’s “The more things change, the more they stay the same,” “Be the change that you wish to see in the world,” or my favorite, “Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.” We’d probably need pages and pages (or gigabytes) of space to list them all. There’s a reason for the overload of clichés. Change is inevitable. Change is a constant.

So, how do you react to changes? Do you get angry, stressed, or belligerent? Or do you approach change calmly, looking to go with the flow?

I must admit, I’m one who could react either way. Recently, I’ve found that I tend to rationalize and try to find that good place where I see the benefits of change and maybe even spread the goodness around – let others see how positive I am about an impending change.

For example, moving from Financial Edge to Financial Edge NXT is change. Some may see it as a big change. Here’s something I figured out which makes my day a little easier with regard to moving from Financial Edge (my old friend for 17 years) to Financial Edge NXT. When entering data in Financial Edge, my favorite “hack” is in the date fields. Instead of needing to type out the entire date or use the calendar to find the date, I can just type the number (day) and voila, Financial Edge knows to add the month and year. Of course, this only works during the current month, but there are SO many times I’m working on current month entry.

Did you know you can do the same thing in Financial Edge NXT? Any date field. Try it.

Why am I telling you this? Because while I know moving from one version (well loved, often used version) of software to another can be harrowing, it isn’t all bad.  Some of the best loved tips and tricks transcend version.
