Introduction to AddressFinder

Published
Have you moved recently or know someone who has? I know for me, I moved a few weeks ago and I had to send in a form to United States Post Office updating my mailing address.

What happens to that data and how does that affect organizations that I give to financially?

Well, that is through The National Change of Address (NCOA) is the USPS service that collects change of address information. Now, we know where it goes, how does it apply for our donors?

If you use The Raisers’ Edge, CRM, or a 3rd party product, Data Enrichment Services has a great service to update the addresses of your constituent records. This service is called AddressFinder, and AddressFinder updates mailing addresses of any mailing changes that have occurred in the past. Along with updating any moves, it standardizes the address as well.

This is a really nice feature when you send out mailings; it shows the proper address block per NCOA and USPS standards. Another great perk is you do not get a mailing back saying incorrect address or no one lives at that address under this name.

For our clients who have this product we suggest running an AddressFinder screening 4 times a year on a quarterly basis. We encourage users to do so because the NCOA database updates quarterly with all mailing addresses nationally. It is a simple, yet great service that can take your organization far in terms of contacting our donors via mailings.
