Uncovering Giving Affinity

Published

Do you ever find yourself wondering about prospecting for donors who have affinity for projects like one that’s on your radar?  Here’s a way to comb through your WealthPoint screenings that might help.

I come across some really interesting tips and tricks working one-on-one with clients, and one of the best things about TA Community is that I can share with a much broader audience—like you!

The team with which I was working is preparing to raise money for some very specific initiatives and, while they know their donors fairly well, they weren’t sure how to efficiently uncover affinity for a project that’s newer to them—raising money for a library.

A great way to do this kind of detective work is to turn to WealthPoint screenings, and NOZA specifically.  Try searching your ResearchPoint database for gift history to organizations with similar missions.  For example, these prospect researchers decided to start by querying NOZA returns for organizations with words like education, literacy, reading, and books in the name.  If they could find a few people with known philanthropy at certain levels to certain kinds of causes—and those people also have interesting giving history or affiliation characteristics within their own organization—that’s a place to start!

Anyone else out there has uncovered a cool tip or trick like this?  There are tons of them—and I hope you’ll share some of your favorites with the Community!
