Neither Higher Income Nor A Little Extra Money Does A Major Giver Make

A new blog post casts a major giving prospecting eye on the recent results from the Blackbaud Institute's study, "Share of the American Wallet".

Caught up in trying to capture prospects with the latest buzz word - discretionary spending - in your database?  Looking for those prospects who earn a higher household income than the rest?  I recommend a blog post from npENGAGE that looks at the results from the recent study by the Blackbaud Institute on how discretionary spending and demographic characteristics of a household relate to their philanthropic giving.

The Blackbaud Institute study, referencing the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Expenditure Survey, gives us confirmation of old-school truisms in philanthropy as well as nods to the current trends.  But as the blogger Melissa Bank Stepno points out, merely following the checklist of the five biggest influencing factors identified by the survey will not take into account subtleties of major gift prospecting.
