The New Year Brings a New Way of Doing Things

Published

Maybe you're like me and you look to give certain things added attention in a new year, like increasing your exercise or you add a new item to your goals for the year, such as free your home of unwanted and unneeded clutter. I've already started my list and my pantry is now clutter-free!

I accomplished it even before 2015 ended, so I'm feeling like I'm on a roll.  It makes me feel good to get the head-start on a new objective.

Finding more effective marketing for planned giving or major giving leads is something that I always seem to turn to in my professional life at the new year.

I now have room to try something new - maybe yak meat?! Indeed, it's available at the Sherpa House in Golden, CO, near where I work and reside.

2016 is just around the corner and while yak meat may not be first on my list of new culinary adventures, I've made it my top priority to review all of my sample consulting materials to include the latest research findings about using effective language with major and planned gift donors.

This past year I've read, heard and delved into organizational results using this new research.  The results are in for some organization and they're astounding!  This is probably the first time I've ever used the word 'astounding' in a blog post before - like most old dogs that can't learn new tricks - I tend to stay with what I personally know as tried and true.

But, I'm willing to change - and I wanted to share some exciting free resources from our friends at MarketSmart.

This company, fairly new to the scene in major and planned giving marketing services, has a series of eBooks and webinars that I recommend you put first on your priority list of 2016 resolutions to delve into yourself.

Take time to hear about the "Words that Work" by Dr. Russell James, a noted resarcher in the major/planned giving donor field and a fundraiser himself.

Then, you might want to join me in reviewing your marketing materials too - and make them more effective.

Surely, this activity will pay off - and if you want to join me at the Sherpa House some weekend for a taste of yak - let me know when you're in town.  I'll meet you there and we can discuss how your marketing results have increased due to your "new tricks"!

Here's a short list of resources to get you started:

"Words that Work: Phrases that Encourage Planned Giving" - ebook
"Words that Work: Phrases that Encourage Planned Giving" - webinar
"How to Write Appeal Letters to Major Donors that Raise Money" - ebook

P.S.  If you've got other resources around the new research by Dr. James that you'd like to share, please reply to this blog with the link.  We'd all love to see those too!

Happy 2016 and happy fundraising - it's gonna be a great year. smiley yes
