Default Distributions for Projects, Grants, and Endowments: A “Hack” to Make Data Entry Easier

Published

What we will be discussing is designed for those with the Projects, Grants, and Endowments Module, but if you do not have this module, don’t feel left out, as there are other types of default distributions that are available to you as well. For example, you are able to utilize Transaction distributions to make distributing activity to classes and transactions codes quick and easy. To learn more about default transaction distributions, select the guide:The Financial Edge Configuration Guide for General Ledger – page 53 for Distributions.

But why should I even set up a default distribution? Wonderful question. Have you ever built a budget, and then had to distribute it to the same sets of projects and grants? Have you had to do this more than once? Well, with default distributions, you can save yourself some time. There are several options available: project-only distributions, grant-only distribution, or project and grant distributions. In order to create a grant distribution, you must first set up a grant tracking transaction code on the Grants Business Rules page of Configuration.

As you probably already know, we distribute so that we can be specific about where funds are going. We can do this either manually or with a default distribution template.  These templates are reusable to speed up the process of entering transactions. Distributions can also be edited or deleted at any time. But remember, once something has been deleted in The Financial Edge it cannot be recovered!

So, are you ready to get some distributing done? If so, please select one of the following links to walk you through defining your default distributions:
