I’ve been around Blackbaud for quite a while now. Retrospectively speaking, when I started working for Blackbaud we used floppy disks for data storage, and our user manuals were printed as bound books. Maybe you’ve been around for a while, too. If so, it means you’ve seen plenty of fiscal year-end activity. If you’re “old-hat” at wrapping up your fiscal year, you know that when June 30 is looming, your end-of-year is just beginning

You may think you don’t have time to spend in class, learning about Financial Edge; but did you know that as a Learn® subscriber we have eLearning courses that can help you refresh your memory on certain tasks? Need a quick reminder for how to reconcile to a bank statement, or post to General Ledger? Accounts Payable: Basics of Data Processing can help you with that!

Maybe you need a deeper dive into how to reconcile your Payables and General Ledger—we can help with that, too. Financial Edge: Reconciling Subsidiary Ledgers to General Ledger is a three-hour instructor-led class you can take right at your desk.

Quick Tip! Here’s a tip for improving the processing speed of your financial reports. You can optimize fiscal years by summarizing transaction data and soft-closing fiscal periods, in one easy step. How? Within General Ledger Configuration, on the Fiscal Years tab locate Optimize Fiscal Years. Of course, the best practice is to only include fiscal years that will not have additional transactions added to them.
