Correcting your W-2s

Published
Hey there! W-2 time is here again, and while you want to make sure you’re getting your W-2s out as quickly as possible, of course you want to ensure their accuracy at the same time.

While it’s technically possible to correct W-2 amounts on the fly within the Aatrix grid when processing, I definitely encourage you to go one level deeper by making corrections to the employee records first, whenever possible.  This ensures that your changes are reflected not only on your W-2s, but also saved on the employee record as well.

Before you complete your processing, there are a few different reports that can help with reconciling your W-2 amounts.  The Adjusted Gross Wage Report and the Payroll Register Report are the big two, and they will cover the majority of boxes on the W-2. It's possible to verify the rest of the fields through either the employee record or Configuration. For a full breakdown of the W-2 boxes and how to reconcile each one, check out How to verify information on W-2s

Ok, so say you find a couple of employees that need corrections. Zip over to our interactive W-2 Wizard for screen shots and step-by-step instructions to correct any box amount or field information.  In short, all you need to determine is what box needs to be fixed and by how much, and you’re on your way to correcting your W-2s!

Best wishes for a productive and successful tax season! smiley
