Jeff Haguewood, Co-Founder Sidekick Solutions, which supports nonprofits by helping to simplify technology and fundraising, recently published a free ebook called 10 Ways to “Get the Most” from Blackbaud eTapestry. This ebook is a thoroughly helpful tool for all eTapestry users and I wanted to take a moment to share a few of his tips and encourage you to go download and share this resource with eTapestry users at your organization.

  1. Segment Constituent Accounts with user defined fields:

    • Jeff points out that user defined fields in eTapestry can help your organization serve constituents in a more personalized way, build relationships with them, and provide them with great service. The flexibility and customization available through user defined fields is a powerful feature within eTapestry. Jeff points out that this segmentation should be guided by your overall fundraising strategy; however, a few donor best practices to consider are: communication preferences, program interests, event invitation preferences, expected frequency of interaction, and more.

  2. Track Prospective Donors and Interactions with Prospective Donors:

    • As you know, it is common to track current donors and past donors; however, Haguewood points out that eTapestry is also a great tool to track and cultivate prospective donors! He writes that eTapestry allows you to track interactions with prospects through user-defined fields or moves management which can then help you make the right ask through the right channel. The reporting capabilities can then help in new donor acquisition, donor retention, and asks for increased gifts.

  3. Simplify the Online Donation Process with Web Forms and Auto-Generated Receipts or Acknowledgments:

    • Online Giving accounted for 7% of overall giving in 2012, up from 6.3% in 2011. eTapestry has powerful online giving tools through DIY forms, auto-generated receipts and acknowledgements via email to save you time. Jeff shares that through the “Management” drop down on the DIY form manager allows you to create online forms, and the “Correspondence” drop down allows you to auto-generate correspondences. You can then simply link the two in the DIY form settings and test the form. For more detail about using the eTapestry’s API to take your DIY forms to the next level to create more complex online giving systems, download the ebook in its entirety.
