COURSE RELEASE: Best Practices: Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

Published
Have you downloaded Blackbaud’s 2016 Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Study? If not, take a moment to do so, there’s so much to learn!

Before you have a chance to read it, I’ll give you a hint of what’s to come: 2015 was another great year for peer-to-peer fundraising. Technology and social media have made it easier than ever for constituents to share their passion for causes with friends and family. Take advantage of this opportunity at your organization.

In-person peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns like walks and runs have been around for years, but you can get involved with newer trends including virtual campaigns and do-it-yourself fundraisers. This best practice class, Best Practices: Peer-to-Peer Fundraising will help you launch a new campaign, or improve an existing one.

Here are some things we’ll discuss during class:

Planning a Peer-to-Peer Campaign: Before you launch a campaign, it’s essential to plan. Think about how peer-to-peer fundraising fits into the overall strategic plan of your organization. Explore your target audience: who are they and why will they participate?

Launching a Peer-to-Peer Campaign: Adding the “Fundraise” option to your website is a good start, but not nearly enough to grow a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign. You’ll need to get the word out about your campaign through every available communication method, including personal outreach to key influencers, emailing, and social media.

Engaging with Participants: The best way to make sure fundraisers return year after year is to make your campaign memorable. Engage participants with your mission, and tell them how their participation makes an impact.  This is your chance to be creative!

Analyzing Your Effort: After the campaign is over, the work does not end. Analyze your campaign: what went well, what did not go well, what lessons did you learn? The next time you have a peer-to-peer campaign, put your lessons learned into action.
