New ways to customize your welcome emails in DonorCentral NXT

Published
With our latest update to DonorCentral NXT, you have more control than ever over the content of welcome emails that new users receive once you enter their email address in FIMS. Previously there had been some user confusion about how to create an ID after landing on the Login page. To address this confusion, we instituted two different versions of the welcome emails.

Now you will be able to send an email with specific messaging to users based on whether their email address is already associated with a Blackbaud ID or not associated with a Blackbaud ID. Ideally users who do not have a Blackbaud ID will receive an email that will direct them to the Sign-Up page rather than the Login Page to streamline the user creation process.

To update the content of automated welcome emails, go to Control panel, Site configuration, then Automated emails. Select the three dots next to Welcome and then Edit.

Scrolling down to the Body section, you will see a menu that lets you choose BBID User or Non-BBID User. Use this to toggle between the two welcome email types.

By default, these emails will be identical to the existing welcome email your organization has set up. Nothing will change from your users’ perspective unless you go in and edit the text.

The bulk of your new users are probably Non-BBID Users, meaning that they have not set up a Blackbaud ID account. You can now create an automated email for those users walking them through the steps of setting up an account. We’ve included sample text at the bottom of this page for a non-BBID user welcome email.

For users who have already created a Blackbaud ID account for another Blackbaud service, you can create a BBID User welcome email pointing them to the login page where they can enter the email address and password for their existing Blackbaud ID account.

As part of this update we have unlocked the “Merged Content” that was not editable prior to this update. Merge content automatically fills in details based on the recipient. By selecting these items from the drop-down menu above the Body text, the following information can be automatically added to each email that goes out:
  • User’s Email address: This inserts the user’s email address that you entered in FIMS. Users must enter the same address when creating an account.
  • User’s name: This inserts a user’s name in the format Firstname Lastname.
  • Site url: This inserts a hyperlink to your organization’s DonorCentral site.
  • SignUp page url: This inserts a hyperlink to the Create a Blackbaud ID page.
  • Need Help: This inserts a hyperlink to the help page Issues with Blackbaud ID?

When you have finished composing your welcome emails for BBID Users and Non-BBID Users, hit Save to save both emails.
To preview the emails, select the three dots next to Welcome again and select Send sample email. Select the User Type (BBID User or Non-BBID User). You may enter a Username to test that merge field. Enter an address and hit Send now.
