Tips for Using the Reviewer Portal

Published
The Blackbaud Grantmaking Reviewer Portal is designed to help you move your review process online. Gone are the days of books, binders, and stacks and stacks and stacks and stacks of paper. Using the Reviewer Portal, the people and committees you rely on to review grant proposals can provide feedback—securely and confidentially—through an easy-to-access online portal. Here are some tips for using the Reviewer Portal:

  • It starts with the setup. Set up review stages and forms to determine how you would like the review process to run, and what type of feedback you’d like to collect from reviewers. You can set up different stages and forms for different types of grants or programs. For example, a medical research proposal and a gift-in-kind proposal may require a different review process and different feedback fields.

  • Consider your criteria. How will you evaluate grant proposals? What type of feedback do you need to collect from reviewers? You can use simple feedback fields, including:
    • Should we fund this proposal? Yes/No
    • Suggested Amount: $ __________
    • Comments: __________________
With the optional Blueprint module, you can add custom fields to make your review forms as detailed as you need. This might include feedback fields for potential conflicts of interest, analysis of the project design, or other relevant medical research.

  • Communicate with your reviewers. Your reviewers must understand the review process and how to use the technology. At the beginning of a review cycle, schedule a webinar or phone call to discuss expectations and access details. Ensure each reviewer has the information they need to login and complete their assigned reviews. Provide the email or phone number of a staff person who is available to help.
