Community Happenings: June 27 2017

Hello Community!

Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book being published.

I’ll always remember dressing up for the movie premieres - homemade wands, lightning bolts, and even a cat tail and ears. It became a tradition for my friends – a moment to reconnect around something that had become entwined in our lives.

Once I stopped giggling, I started thinking about our Community. Each of your organizations put on events, campaigns, and more. Each of those represent an opportunity for your supporters to create a tradition or continue an old one. It’s a powerful way to not only reconnect with others but also a way for your supporters to help change the world. Even more so powerful than He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

Keep an eye out the next time it’s time for another event or campaign to kick off. I can guarantee you that even if they don’t show up in a faux cat tail, your supporters are holding true to traditions spurred by your events. What a great thing, right?

Enough of the feels, let’s talk Blackbaud Community:

I love that Eileen! I may or may not have a few magic wands myself. I almost bought one at the studios when we went to London but refrained now I kind of regret it. I always encourage kids to read what they find fascinating - at that time it became popular here, I was in high school and I remembered the backlash - lots of "it teaches them witchcraft" but as a grown-up, it certainly does not (most of the words are rooted in Latin) and the lessons learned transcend the magic bits. At least in my opinion.
Excellent blog....but has 20 years gone by that quickly? I was just reading that to with my students, convincing staff it was okay for them to read this book as long as they were reading something, and wondering why it was fascinating. Lol, I do have a magic wand  in my office!
Matthew - I can honestly say that's got to be one of the best comments on one of my blogs to date. Thank you for your kind words!
Shannon, the Harry Potter-themed blog post is absolutely nerdy, witty and effectively catchy. You cast a spell on me and it worked: I read the post top to bottom, and got a lot out of it.  Expelliarmus indeed.
Hey Krys! Here's the direct link: https://community.blackbaud.com/events/item/15/1640 Let me know if that doesn't work for you!
I tried to click on the link for the Clark University event tomorrow and it just takes me to a blank page.  Is anyone else having this problem?
