Community Happenings: February 6 2018
Published
Hi Community!
Blackbaud is notorious for acronyms but there are two very important ones to discuss today: TLS and GDPR. Get ready, these are some epic changes!
TLS
TLS stands for “Transport Layer Security” and is a protocol that provides privacy and data integrity between two communication applications. Per the PCI Security Standards, Blackbaud is disabling TLS v 1.0 encryption protocol on March 15, 2018.
If you’re hosted or self-hosted, we have plenty of information about the upcoming changes. Make sure to check out this Best Practices for Sharing TLS Requirements with Your Donors post. Blackbaud has also created a one stop shop for all the TLS information here.
GDPR
GDPR stands for “General Data Protection Regulation” and is a regulation that unifies and strengthens data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). Even more importantly it addresses the export of personal data outside of the European Union. While the regulation is in effect now, the official grace period is over in May 2018 and you’ll want to be ready.
