About Beryl:

Tell us about your family (fur babies count!): "I have a husband and a furbaby named Levi. He is a 3-year-old rescue schnauzer terrier mix. "

Where do you live? "I live in Longmont, Colorado."

What do you like to do for fun? "We go to the gym five times a week. My husband is a certified Personal Trainer. We try to stay really healthy. I’m a type one diabetic and being healthy is one of the best things I can do. I like the scenery of Colorado so there is a lot of hiking."

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "I am particularly proud of being given the opportunity to be a part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program at the Yuma Community Food Bank in Yuma, Arizona. This program was life changing and provided me with the professional training I needed to begin my career in fundraising."

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "When I went to sing in the Vatican during mass in my freshman year of High School. This experience was indescribable!"

How did you get your start in the non-profit world? "I started in non-profits in Arizona at Yuma Community Food Bank – where I served as the development specialist. I did primarily grant writing for them. Before that I was fundraising for the Community College Choir. I traveled on three trips through Europe through fundraising. We would go door to door to raise money, and perform at events."

Tell us about your organization? "The Inn Between of Longmont is a Self-Sufficiency Program that provides safe, affordable housing, comprehensive case management and in-house life-skills training to build skills that enhance the quality of life. The overall goal is for families, youth and individuals to transition from being homeless and work toward a self-sufficient living."

What’s a typical day like for you? "I am the Development Director. A typical day is busy. I do fundraising, volunteer management, and marketing. Every day is different. It is exciting!"

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "When I first started, I didn’t really know about the Blackbaud Community. I went on to it and learned a lot and was able to read a lot of interesting topics that I had questions about and stuff that I didn’t even know or think about until I read the posts in Community. Being able to go into the Community and read new ideas, thoughts, and helped me focus on different areas in our database."
Finally..

If you had 24 hours left before the asteroid hit, what would you spend your time doing? "I would spend my time on a beach with my husband, listening to the ocean and playing fetch with my dog."
