About Karl:

Tell us about your family (fur babies count!): "I've been married for 10 years and we currently have two geriatric cats."

Where do you live? "Wilmington, NC"

What do you like to do for fun? "I'm a nerd. I like to watch sci-fi & comic-related movies and TV shows, and I also code creatively for fun."

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "Making it through the long and bureaucratic US immigration process."

How did you get your start in the non-profit world? "I interviewed for an administrative job with Development at UNCW and was not selected for the position, but they remembered me when they had a temporary vacancy in prospect research."

Tell us about your organization? "We're a relatively young mid-size public 4-year university with about 70,000 living alumni. Our signature programs are in marine science, creative writing, nursing, psychology, clinical research, business and education."

What’s a typical day like for you? "There's no such thing, these days. At any point I could be working on data entry, report-writing, research."

What’s the best part of your job? "I have a great team and we get a great deal of variety in our work from day-to-day."

Do you have any advice for someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Attend conferences and join online discussion groups."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "I like being able to pose a problem I've been having with RE or RP to the community at large to see what solutions people come up with."

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "The day I first met our dog (now deceased). She rode in the car with me for 2 hours and wasn't bothered but then, when she realized I was following her into the house, she whipped around and had to perform a full background clearance on me before she'd let me past."
Finally..

If you had 24 hours left before the asteroid hit, what would you spend your time doing? "Freaking the hell out!"

I'm working on this week's challenge, and chose to click on your profile because I MISS Wilmington! (lived in NC for 15 years, 2 of those in Southport. Volunteered at the Aquarium at Fort Fisher). The fact that you have cats is a bonus! Go Seahawks!
