About Lawrence:
 Tell us about your family (fur babies count!) "My fiance and I recently packed our bags and moved from Metro Detroit to Grand Rapids to be closer to family. We're currently looking for a house and can't wait to get out of our very tiny apartment! We currently live less than a mile from our own personal fan club my mom, grandmother, and aunt. It's great having a support system so close."
 Where do you live? "Grand Rapids, Michigan."
 What do you like to do for fun? "Pretty much anything outdoors. I'm a big fan of working out and enjoy going to the gym, running, hiking, or taking long walks. Traveling is always great!"

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "I'd like to think that my greatest achievements are yet to come. It's difficult to pinpoint a particular achievement. "
What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "Vacations with family exploring new places. There are so many instances it's hard to pick just one!" |

Tell us about your organization: "The Van Andel Institute (VAI) is an independent biomedical research and science education organization committed to improving the health and enhacing lives of current and future generations. It's unique for the fact that the institute is able to fast track research breakthroughs and newly discovered therapies to affect human health through its established network and partnerships with other health organizations. Comprised of four main divisions; the Van Andel Research Institute, the Van Andel Education Institute, the Van Andel Institute Graduate School, and Purple Community, the institute stresses a community-wide, holistic approach to raising awareness, fundraising, and researching to combat the often devastating effects of diseases such as cancer and Parkinson's."
 What’s a typical day like for you? "Boot up Raiser's Edge and start processing gifts. Then switch it up with data clean-up projects. I'm still relatively new in my current position so I round out the day with various Blackbaud trainings and working with our Finance department to better establish a line of cosistent communication."
 What’s the best part of your job? "Getting to put all the pieces together. I love the puzzle-like aspect of working with the Rasier's Edge and it's so satisfying once you have everything running smoothly and can really start to see the whole picture. Plus, working with donation processing you really learn what motivates people to act, participate, and give."

What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Become indispensable. Especially in non-profits that might not have steady flows of income it's important to wear many hats and be able to function efficiently in different departments. You'll connect with your co-workers more if you show interest in their work as well!"Â
 What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "Having a sounding board to resolve problems. It's great to see what has worked for other organizations and to know that your situation isn't unique."
