Tell us about your family (fur babies count!) "My two nieces keep me busy for now.  Moving to New Orleans meant that more family and friends from across the country are finding reasons to visit, so my home is often full of visitors."

Where do you live? "New Orleans, Louisiana."

What do you like to do for fun? "I love to see live music and to dance.  In all the cities I've lived in, I've taken any chance to get lessons in the local moves:  Salsa and two-step in Austin, swing in Chicago, stepping in Bulawayo and the ceili in Cork.  During Mardi Gras season I go to as many parades and balls as I can, and when I travel I spend all my time in museums."

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "I will be very proud when I finish my Master of Fine Arts degree in May.  Or at least relieved."

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "The many lessons I received from a young woman trying to teach me Ndebele while I was helping her with English literacy.  She was a better student than I was, which was an incredibly humbling experience."

Tell us about your organization: "Loyola New Orleans is a Jesuit University with a mission to teach students critical thinking and respect for the world, with special emphasis on justice and care for the environment, the poor and oppressed.  Our academic programs partner with community organizations throughout the city to provide meaningful service, research and policy."

What’s a typical day like for you? "I write or read for a bit, walk to work, and then rush around the building all day either to attend meetings, discuss process implementation, provide database training, or just to get more coffee.  I spend most evenings in a cafe writing my thesis until I can't keep my eyes open any longer."

What’s the best part of your job? "When I teach someone an easier process and they are stunned by how much time they're going to save in the future."

What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "I learned that if you think you solved someone's problem, it's more than likely you didn't understand the problem to begin with.  Constantly talk to the people you are serving to see what they think the problem is, what they think the solution is.  Also, although donors are incredibly important, your mission is to serve.  Don't spend all of your energy serving the donor."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "Though most are incredibly busy, the Community is full of people who will take their time to listen and provide meaningful suggestions."
Finally, if you were a sandwich - what kind of sandwich would you be?: "A shrimp po-boy!"
