Tell us about your family (fur babies count!) "I am married to Chris and we have 3 kids, Haley, Jared and Cade.  Haley is married and gave birth to my first grandchild in 2016 - he is SO CUTE!  Jared and Cade are juniors in high school.  The Marshall family has two cats, Cooper and MiniCooper."

Where do you live? "Greencastle, PA."

What do you like to do for fun? "To be perfectly honest, I am too busy to do much just for fun activities, but when I do, I like to attend concerts or sporting events, or on really perfect spring or summer days, I like to have a picnic in park or just hang out on my deck and read a good book."

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "I am proud of the fact that I have overcome the shyness that kept me back when I was younger.  Now I feel like I can do pretty much anything in front of any number of people.  In this stage of my professional career, I am particularly proud of the fact that I became Professionally Certified in Raiser's Edge this year!"

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "Remembering the labor and delivery of my first child, Haley, makes me smile.  It was quite an experience!  Definitely not one that I want to experience again, but it is still a fond memory.  She was stubborn before she was born and she remains stubborn to this day."

What is one interesting fact about yourself most people don't know? "I am seriously competitive.  I'm not an athlete, by any means, but I still want to be the best in everything.  And that competitiveness is very apparent when my kids are playing football or baseball. I'm not one of those crazy people shouting and carrying on at a ball field, but I definitely get bent out of shape when there are bad calls, etc., which basically just raises my blood pressure up and lowers my mood."

Tell us about your organization: "Menno Haven is a continuing care retirement community in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.  It is comprised of 3 campuses that incorporate independent living townhomes, villas and apartments, with two assisted living apartment buildings and two large nursing centers.  Menno Haven is occupied by over 1,200 residents and over 600 employees.  We are currently in a capital campaign to build 4 new buildings, including a new nursing center, a new assisted living demenita care facility, a rehab center and a Resident Life Center, as well as expand one of our independent living facilities."

What’s a typical day like for you? "No two days are ever the same in my office.  I may be running reports or working on the database (I'm the RE DBA for our company); I may be writing articles or creating ads; I may be doing research or dealing with spreadsheets all day.  No matter what I am doing, it is good, because I work with some great people."

What’s the best part of your job? "I have the best boss ever!  Chuck is funny, generous and engaging.  He allows me the freedom to do what I need to do without ever micromanaging anything.  He supports my work and has faith in me, which makes me want to excel even more."
What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Learn, learn, learn!  Talk to people, attend events and training sessions, be observant and absorb what you can from people who are experienced.  Our job in Development is about engaging others and motivating them to want to be apart of whatever you've got going on."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "It's nice to know that when I don't know how to do something, or I find that something isn't working the way that I want, I have somewhere to go where I can ask questions and get feedback from others using the same product."
Finally, if you were a sandwich, what kind of sandwich would you be? "If I were a sandwich... I would be a "fully dressed" shrimp po-boy.  I'm cajun at heart and I love the ocean (fried shrimp); I can be pretty crusty (french bread) and saucy (tarter or ramoullade) when I need to be; and I like to be totally prepared ("fully dressed"), without anything lacking (lettuce and tomato).  Serve me up with a side of onion rings!"
