Tell us about your family (fur babies count!): "My wife and I just celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary. We have two grown children, two grandchildren and a cat."

Where do you live? "Shawnee, Kansas."

What do you like to do for fun? "I read, swim, play board games and also play french horn (for fun)!"

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "Very proud of the fact that our kids are both college graduates and are both out in the world doing amazing things. If they weren't my kids they're still the kind of people I'd want to hang out with."

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "Pretty much any memories of kids and family make me smile - particularly memories of some of our family vacations over the years."

What is one interesting fact about yourself most people don't know: "I was a musician in the US Army. Specifically, an 02D (french horn player). I served 3 years active duty and 3 years active reserve."

What are three things on your bucket list? "Bucket lists scare me - what happens when you finish all of the tasks?"

Tell us about your organization "Donnelly College is a Catholic institution of higher education that seeks to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in our time by making the love of God tangible in our world. Specifically, the mission of Donnelly College is to provide education and community services with personal concern for the needs and abilities of each student, especially those who might not otherwise be served. The vision of Donnelly College is to advance the common good by being the most accessible and transformative Catholic College in the country. Donnelly seeks to inspire life-long discovery and the communication of truth by exploring the connectedness all things, studying the intersections of faith and reason, and engaging in civil dialogue with all peoples. Rooted in Christian and Benedictine values, Donnelly seeks to motivate actions and relationships that promote a just community, recognizing that every person has inherent dignity and potential, and that we serve God by serving God’s people. Donnelly seeks to challenge people to become the best version of themselves in their vocation, personal life, civic engagement and faith pursuit. Excellence requires perseverance amidst obstacles, striving beyond what is comfortable, openness to new ideas, a commitment to quality and concerted effort."

What’s a typical day like for you? "We're a small college so I wear multiple hats. I spend most of my day working in the database -  entering gifts, running thank you letters, preparing lists and reports. I also spend time researching capacity and propensity of existing donors and assisting with our donor appeals and grant writing and reporting and basically anything else that needs to be done in the Advancement Department that no one else has time to do."
What’s the best part of your job? "The people I work with are amazing and the students that we serve all have interesting and inspiring stories. It's fun - because the college is small - to get to know some of the students and celebrate their successes."

What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Don't be afraid to ask questions. The wheel has already been figured out and works pretty well, so no need to spend time inventing it - ask someone. Also, the non-profit sector is not rewarding financially, so try to remember your purpose and notice all of the non-financial rewards that will come your way."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "I love the fact that everyone is helpful. I learn new things everytime I log in, and I try to share my knowledge as well. There are an interesting group of people in our Community!"
Finally, if you were a sandwich, what kind of sandwich would you be? "I would be a club sandwich - I have many layers!"

That's really cool that you have such a big board game collection!  Let me ask, do you have a game called Park & Shop?  I used to play it at my grandparents when I was a kid.  It's actually probably from the 40's or 50's--I think it may have been my mom's game.

@Joanne- sorry I just noticed your question! We have a collection of 200+ board games - yep, sad or cool depending on how you look at it. They are mostly 60's 70's games we grew up with - plus some obscure ones as well. Quite a few are not much fun to play but the box art is fun! Our go-to's are either older games like Prize Property, or Dealer's Choice, or new games like Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and Settlers of Cataan.
Great profile!  So what board games do you play?
Thanks for sharing, Roger! I appreciate the mission of Donnelly College. Blessings on the new school year!
