Tell us about your family (fur babies count!) "I am the proud father of two boys, a girl, and a rescued dog.  Their names are Brennan (18), Griffin (16), Avery (13) and Petey (7 human years).  My wife and I have been married for almost 22 years."

Where do you live? "Elmhurst, Illinois."

What do you like to do for fun? "Running is where I find my soul.  I have been volunteering to pace marathons for about 14 years across the country. Thankfully this volunteer service is financially supported by a national nutrition company that is socially conscious.  Marathons and Ultras total over 155 now.  For my 100th marathon I celebrated by running my first Ironman.  That was 6 Ironman past.  Yes, even running a 100 mile run was something that I considered fun."

What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "My career is temporary, but the job my wife and I both have raising our children is eternal.  Seeing my children now grow into young adults is my life achievement I am most proud of.  But let's be honest, I will always love my children but I may not always like them (they are teenagers)."

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "My oldest was going through some hard times when he was in middle school.  He asked if we could adopt a dog.  We adopted a rescue dog that really rescued my son.  The smile on his face for months after we brought Petey into our family always makes me smile."

What is one interesting fact about yourself most people don't know?
"As a CFO today most people find it interesting that I really disliked math in high school and gravitated more to the history and social studies."

What are three things on your bucket list? "I really do not have a bucket list."

Tell us about your organization: "Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago offers 17 interactive, hands-on exhibits for children ages birth to 8. All of our exhibits and programs are aligned to the Illinois State Learning Standards and are designed to nurture a love of learning in young children.

Our Vision

We will be an essential leader in providing playful experiences that inspire every child.

Our Mission

We are a place that provides experiences and memories to build a foundation for a lifetime of learning."

What’s a typical day like for you?
"Wake up at 4:30 AM
Leave home 5 AM
Work out 5:30 - 6:30 AM (run)
Start work day at 7 AM
A few meetings throughout the day (HR, Sales, Database, Accounting) and plenty of accounting, finance, and strategic initiatives.
Leave work 3:30 PM to beat rush hour
Work out 4 pm (swim, weights or bike)
5 PM dinner
Family night"
What’s the best part of your job? "Knowing that my efforts help take care of those people who take care of and provide educational programming for the children."

What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Always strive to progressively learn and provide more value to your organization year after year. By doing so you will grow, have fun, and find personal reward."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "The 'we are all in this together' feeling."
Finally.. if you had a theme song when you walked into a room, what would it be? 'Till I Collapse' by Eminem. Most of my life is training and pushing myself personally.  Serving in a nonprofit is my recovery time and place of peace from the non-stop approach I pursue in my life.  It is a crazy ying/yang but I love it."
