Meet Jordana Zirpolo!

This week's member spotlight shines on eTapestry user, Jordana Zirpolo, with Koinonia Academy. In just a few days, Jordana shot up the leaderboard and is now our first Community Legend!

Jordana's Community Profile

Tell us about your family (fur babies count!) "Although I am originally from New York, my immediate family is now dispersed on both the East and West coast. I have one sister who lives out in Los Angeles. My parents live in Manhattan. After living in midtown Manhattan for four years I was ready for the change of pace."

Where do you live? "Suburban New Jersey."

What do you like to do for fun? "Indoor (and outdoor) rock climbing! In the past year, I started teaching children how to rock climb as well. I'm a firm believer that if you have a talent or something that brings you happiness, the best way to pay it forward is to share that talent (and happiness) with others."
What’s a life achievement you are particularly proud of? "Shortly after the beginning of the 2008 recession, I graduated college a semester early with less than six months to work out the strategy for coursework, university credits, and a job offer. I learned what kind of person I could be when there were tight deadlines, different pressure points, and risk involved. I graduated with a double major and saved a semester of tuition.

What’s one memory that always makes you smile? "The first time my puppy sneezed, she was so tiny that she rolled on her back. She was barely a pound and had a sneezing fit that day, I was in tears laughing and hugging her. She's quite the gem."

What is one interesting fact about yourself most people don't know? "Firstly, I love a busy work week and travel. However, the only way I can re-charge is by spending a certain amount of time each week solo, usually reading a book by an author that inspires me. I look to some authors as "mentors" - a conversation or respite where I can get advice from someone who has a different lens and experience for me to learn from. So after a major conference or a lot of meetings, I'm probably under a blanket with a great book."

What are three things on your bucket list? "1. Have a family one day, 2. Travel to Belize, 3. To read the Jerusalem version of the Bible cover to cover (it was written by Tolken!)"
Tell us about your organization "Koinonia Academy is a private Catholic school originally established in 1984. Our classroom size averages about twenty-five students per grade and our learners go on to accomplish some remarkable experiences while they are enrolled. The character the students develop is a reflection of the families and faculty here and it's beautifully genuine."

What’s a typical day like for you? "From the moment the alarm goes off? Step 1: double shot espresso, black with a lemon rind on the side. Check e-mails while I get ready to see if any priorities from the day before would need to get adjusted. Some Board meetings take place off-campus but when possible I work from campus. The school averages about twenty-five children per grade so I've gotten to students, families, staff, and faculty; it feels like a family."

What’s the best part of your job? "Koinonia Academy has allowed me to not only grow in my professional life but also walk the walk as a Catholic. Both experiences have been refreshingly rewarding."
What advice would you give someone starting out in the non-profit field? "Find a cause or organization that you feel passionately connected to; that way when you work to fundraise, you speak from the heart and not as a salesperson. Sincerity attracts sincerity... and to keep a legacy of an organization going you need passionate people within the organization and supporting it from the outside as well."

What do you love about the Blackbaud Community? "The responsiveness of the Blackbaud Community from course inquiries to assistance on best practices has been phenomenal. I find that many people like to be resources as much as they are looking for resources of their own which is great."
Finally, if you had a theme song, what would your theme song be? "If my life was a movie, the opening scene would take place on a Sunday with the camera panning in with the song 'Her Morning Elegance' by Oren Lavie playing in the background."
