Hosting FAQ: Files Folder

Published
Q: What is the Files Folder?

A: Blackbaud’s hosting servers have a Files folder location for temporary file storage while moving information between your hosted application and your local environment. Each unique Hosting username is allocated 100MB of space within their organization’s folder. It is important to note that this is designed to be temporary, so once a file has been exported from the application, we recommend that you download it to your local machine and delete it from the Files folder.

Q: Is there a way to simplify the process of accessing the Files folder?

A: Yes! Users can save the Files folder URL for their data center as a favorite within their internet browser.

These URLs will open to the login screen for the Files folder, and you can follow the prompts to login. The username and password is the same login that you use for logging into the hosted environment.

An alternative way we recommend for accessing the Files folder is the third-party, free application, FileZilla. It has many great features, such as the ability to access the Files location without going through the Hosting portal, save your log in information, drag and drop multiple files, and save both local and hosted default file locations.  Refer to Knowledgebase solution How to use FileZilla to access your FTP and/or Hosting Files Folder (includes demo) for a link to download FileZilla as well as detailed installation instructions. Once installed,  set up your default file locations within FileZilla, so it will automatically open to your personal folder within the hosted Files folder.
**Note: Filezilla does not currently work with our Vancouver Files Folder. Alternatively, you may configure Bitkinex 3.1.1 for Windows to access the Vancouver Files Folder.

Q: Can I access my local drives directly from my hosted application?

A: This functionality is currently in the process of being rolled out in waves for all of our hosted customers. Some organizations may already have access to this, and the rest should be completed over the next couple of months. More details on this functionality can be found in our Knowledgebase solution, How to directly export files from Blackbaud Hosting Services to your local computer (includes video).
We will also be posting more information about local disk mapping on this blog as the functionality becomes available to more of our customers.
