Recent Google Chrome Update and Blackbaud Hosting Services

Published
Do you use Chrome to access Blackbaud Hosting Services? If so, you may notice the recent browser update that was pushed out from Google has generated some additional prompts when launching your applications through Citrix.

Chrome users may be prompted to choose a file location to save or download a launch.ica file after clicking the application icon in Blackbaud Hosting Services. This may be accompanied by an error if saving to a network or restricted location.

To resolve this in Google Chrome follow these steps in order as needed:

  1. Click Menu in Chrome
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Show Advanced Settings
  4. Scroll down to downloads and Unmark box for “Ask where to save each file before downloading”
  5. Click the Clear Auto-opening settings
  6. Click application icon, lauch.ica file downloads automatically
  7. Click Down arrow on down, select “Always open files of this type”
  8. Click Launch.ica file to launch application

  1. If prompted, choose Permit All Access to complete the process

If the file opens in a third party program such as Abobe, Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on your Start Menu
  2. Choose Default Programs
  3. Choose Associate a file type or protocol with a program
  4. Scroll down in this list of extensions until you see ".ica"
  5. Click on Change Program...
  6. In the new window, click on "Browse..."
  7. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client - Note: On a 32-Bit Operating System instead of Program Files (x86) you will simply see Program Files
  8. Select "wfcrun32" and click open
  9. You will be taken back to the "Open with" window, click ok here
