What is the Roaming Profile in Blackbaud Hosting Services?

Published
Our current hosted environment is set up in a load-balancing configuration that automatically connects a user to the application server with the least amount of connections when logging in. Each Citrix user in our hosted environment has what is called a “roaming profile” associated with their username. This roaming profile allows the user’s unique settings to be transferred between the various application servers they may connect to in our environment. This is similar to a local setup where you could log into another computer on your internal network and still use the same network resources you can access from your regular machine.

The roaming profile saves information for your user such as:

  • Last application-specific username the Citrix user used to log into the application (if you are not using Windows Authentication to log in automatically)
  • Recently accessed records within the application
  • Access to hosting User Administration (for members of the Hosting Admin group) and application icons
  • Various user settings/preferences

If any issues are encountered with the above items, then our server administrators may need to recreate the roaming profile for the affected user. In the event that the roaming profile is recreated, all of these items are cleared and reset, but going forward from the next login those items, such as the recently accessed records, will be retained.

If you have any questions about the roaming profile, please create a case on Case Central, choose your product, and select the Blackbaud Application Hosting topic or contact our Hosting Support team using our chat feature.
