Why are There Two Icons for my Application in Blackbaud Hosting Services?

When Blackbaud hosts both The Raiser’s Edge and a Blackbaud NetCommunity product, such as Spark, users will see two icons for The Raiser’s Edge when logging into the hosted Citrix portal:

A common question we receive is ‘which of these icons do we use?’ The two icons appear identical and the applications look identical.  So what is the difference between the two and when do you use each one?

We recommend only accessing The Raiser's Edge - Blackbaud NetCommunity icon when a user would like to process and download Blackbaud NetCommunity transactions, such as donations, event registrations, etc. This is the only reason the Blackbaud NetCommunity plug-in would need to be accessed. All other functions should be done through the regular The Raiser’s Edge 792 icon, including, but not limited to: gift processing, printing, exporting, and running reports. The biggest reason for this recommendation is that certain functionality, such as printing, has been disabled from the Blackbaud NetCommunity icon in order to enhance the performance and stability of the connection to the Blackbaud NetCommunity database. If you have The Financial Edge or The Education Edge, the same applies to your Education Edge/Financial Edge icon and The Education Edge or The Financial Edge Blackbaud NetCommunity icons.
