Healthcare responds to uncertain times

Published
If it were not for social distancing, I would just run around to every public health official I could find and give them a big high five. The healthcare industry is banding together, now more than ever and I for one am immensely appreciative of their hard work and service. From offices pivoting to telephone-based services to locals buying dinner for nurses, I am so thankful for communities who come together.

We are also starting to see healthcare-related organizations offer fundraising opportunities during times like these. Here is a round up of ideas for how you can leverage online fundraising to maintain momentum on Blackbaud Peer-to-Peer Fundraising™, powered by JustGiving™:
  • Crowdfund medical supply needs or specific projects that need funding
  • Create a campaign for general hospital funds
  • Honor a caregiver. Empower patients or family members to create personal fundraising pages on behalf of a doctor, nurse, or staff member to show their appreciation.

  • Allow for DIY personal fundraising. Many races have been cancelled. Families can create a personal fundraising pages, asking for donations to go towards the hospital, while they complete the same distance running around the neighborhood or climbing the staircase in the house. These virtual, DIY fundraisers are an easy, low lift option to promote with your supporters. To learn more about how you can launch a program like this, check out our webinar, How to Generate Peer-to-Peer Fundraising with No Money and No Time.
  • Create a Staff Assistance Fund campaign. Allow for direct donations or for staff to create personal fundraising pages to drive donations to the fund. Communicate the impact to your staff and share pictures or their stories through social media channels.
  • Fund a community benefit project. If your hospital or health system has a community benefit project, bring it to everyone's attention. Supporters are looking for ways to get involved, especially low-contact ways. By promoting the project, fundraising for it, or making modest donations, you can move it forward.
  • Offer Birthday Fundraisers. With so many people staying home, a virtual celebration with donations to you instead of gifts to the honored guest is a great way to get people involved!
Here is an example of a campaign built for coronavirus-based funds. You can see a personalized story and imagery. Updates, pages, etc can all be shared on social media channels too. This campaign allows for personal fundraising pages and donations. Donors are highlighted in a scroll and the progress towards the overall fundraising goal is tracked via a Progress Meter at the top.
