Quintessential Social Media Tips For Engaging Millennials

Published
What do millennials want? Marketers are OBSESSED with this question!

Product targeting and segmentation to millennials is key to promoting successful events, even for non-profit organizations. Understanding this group of constituents and targeting them will provide for growth to your organization.

As a millennial myself, I want to support a cause that I am engaged in and have an experience with. Creating an experience is a MUST in marketing your event to millennials. An important part of creating experiences is grabbing your audience's attention by engaging with them, making each moment with them shareable, and not forgetting to say thank you! I call this process the GEMS of social media marketing for millennials. Use this four step process below to make all your events GEMS!

The GEMS process includes the following steps:

1. GET THEIR ATTENTION

Creating a buzz by posting images and videos that will evoke emotions and grab your social media follower’s attention.

2. ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION

Reach out to your invitees and start a conversation around your event details. Get your followers involved and connected by tagging them in your posts about your event.

*PRO-TIP: Invite constituents by e-mail to join you at your event via social through platforms such as Blakbaud NetCommunity and Everydayhero.

3. MAKE IT SHAREABLE

Inviting your followers to participate in a call to action. Have your followers share their experiences about your organization to others.

*PRO-TIP: Make sure to include a Hashtag for your event in your posts.

4. SAY THANK YOU

Making sure to appreciate your followers and guests post-event on social media is important to building continued relationships. It keeps them talking about your event and your organization.

Thank you for this! This is a hot topic in my department.
#3---YES, especially to this one! I feel like we are good at 2 and 4, but 1 and 3 are great strategies to refocus on.
Get their attention! Great first step.
