Recently, my brother-in-law arranged a scotch tasting directed by a friend of his who’s a connoisseur.
We tasted scotches (only tiny sips!) from small batches and independent bottlers. The scotches had strong and unique aromas and tastes, including “lemon butter” and “used bookstore.” They were much more pleasant than that sounds, of course. My favorite one smelled like chocolate-covered barbecued pork.
I had tried scotch before. But since the tasting, I’ve come to appreciate its complexity and depth. The depth was always there—just only available to those who knew to look for it.
